Robert Thies, Pianist

Robert Thies
won the 1991 Joanna
Hodges Piano Competition, and
has become an artist renowned
for his consummate musicianship.
He captured worldwide attention in
1995 when he won the Gold Medal
at the Second International Prokofiev
Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia.
With this victory, Mr. Thies became
the only American pianist to win first
prize in a Russian piano competition
since Van Cliburn’s famed triumph in
Moscow in 1958.
Dr. James Giles, Pianist
Tuesday, February 25, 7 – 8 p.m.
Dr. James Giles
regularly performs
in important musical centers in the
United States, Europe, and Asia.
Recent tours have taken him to the
Nancy Music Festival in France, the
Accademia Cristofori in Florence,
and the Beijing International Music
Festival. In 1999, Dr. Giles competed
in the Joanna Hodges International
Piano Competition, where he won
prizes in 10 out of 11 divisions. He
is currently the Director of Music
Performance Graduate Studies at
George Northwestern University.
