OperaArts Presents
This, and My Heart: A Portrait of
Emily Dickinson
Thursday, October 16, 7 – 8:15 p.m.
Tracing the themes that poet Emily
Dickinson explored again and again
in her work – nature, love, God, death
– this theatre/concert piece celebrates
her genius and combines her poems
and letters with settings by composers
Aaron Copland, Tom Cipullo, Lori
Laitman, and Steve Heitzeg. As the
performance unfolds, the readings
of her poems and excerpts from her
letters “amplify” the songs, giving
them added vibrancy and depth, and
allowing you to experience the pieces
in the context of Emily Dickinson’s
personality and times.
OperaArts,
created from the dreams
and efforts of a small consortium
of community residents and opera
aficionados, is a non-profit organization
whose goal is to present quality musical
performances to the Coachella Valley
community, with emphasis on our
youth and senior citizens.
This performance is made possible by a
generous gift from Jay Bartush.
