The Library welcomes people with mobility issues, using canes, walkers, wheelchairs or
receiving a helping hand from their caregivers and service dogs. This program is for everyone
and comfortable shoes/sneakers are the only equipment needed.
From June 9 through mid-September, the Library’s Community Room will be
open from 9 a.m. to noon for brisk or leisurely laps in air-conditioned comfort.
According to Library Director, David Bryant, “We will have the Community
Room arranged so that a walk around the perimeter equals 1/25th of a mile
and for those who count, a very average pace of 3 miles per hour will yield a
mile on carpet in 20 minutes. We also know that many participants will walk
while enjoying a conversation with local celebrities, elected officials, or friends
who will join in. Therefore, the pace may vary.”
The Library’s Community Room has several advantages for residents seeking
a safe, cool place to walk for exercise as summer approaches: It is centrally
located, air-conditioned, has ample open space for walking tracks, has a great
sound system so residents can walk to many different kinds of music, and the
carpeted floor is softer on feet and joints than pavement or concrete.
