Welcome to the Rancho Mirage Public Library…

Our message is a little different for this issue of the program guide and for the summer.

We are calling this the Library’s

S O L A R S U M M E R !

Isn’t EVERY summer in the Desert a SOLAR SUMMER? We have lofty temperatures and

persistent sun, creating a dry then humid world that gives us stories to tell in the months

ahead. But the summer of 2015 is different at the Library because we are installing

new shade structures with solar collectors over most of our parking areas. This will turn

sunshine into electricity. We are estimating up to an 80% drop in electrical energy bills.

As you began to see in June, there are and will be additional disruptions to parking.

We anticipate construction will be completed in September, followed by testing and

inspections, and we should be finished and running on sunshine by early October.

With programming intentionally limited to the Children’s Summer Reading Club and all

of its events, you will find this guide to be an informational source on all things “Library,”

especially about the Library’s Foundation, resources, and all that makes it special.

We hope you will take advantage of reading eBooks and eMagazines on our website,

ranchomiragelibrary.org ,

which you can do from your home computer or personal

device. If you hit a snag finding parking in paved places at the Library, try our 3+ acres of

compacted soil at the west end of the Library property.

(As a little preview…once the solar installation is completed, construction will begin on an

observatory to give us the DESERT NIGHT SKY, close up, all year round!)
